Sports Sunday - Giro d'italia

The Giro d'italia is over for another year. It was won by Astana's Vincent Nibali. This is the first time he has won the title in his home lands Grand Tour. A really great achievement for him.

Britain's Mark Cavendish of the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team won the points jersey, thanks to his great sprinting ability. He has now won the grand slam of Grand Tour points jerseys.

The Mountain jersey was claimed by Italian Stefano Pirazzu of the Bardiani team. The overall Teams classification was won by Sky Procycling.

What struck me this year was the weather that these riders were subjected. Rain, sun and snow. Yeah, okay rain and sun are fine. But snow!

Maybe it is just me and my hatred of all things cold but I really felt for the riders on Stage 15 from Cesana Torinese to Col du Galibier, a 149km ride. It looked freezing!

These cyclists are extremely driven and focused to ride such arduous courses in gruelling conditions.

Check out the picture below, the look on Cadel Evans face says it all.

We love cycling in this house. Now the Giro is over we prepare ourselves for the Tour De France. Hopeful that Cadel can win again.

However, I am still completely devastated about the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. I really want my belief back that  the Tour De France is a great race where great athletes push themselves to the limits to achieve greatness.

Lance Armstrong has seriously tainted this for me.

Hopefully the teams have learnt from this though and are working to eradicate drugs in cycling so people can believe again.

Will you be watching the Tour De France?
