Are we all we are?

Rumble, tumble, rumble, tumble. Deep breath. Rumble, tumble.

Life just carries on, doesn't it. We rumble and tumble from one stage to the next, each day rolls from one to the next, time goes by seemingly unnoticed. We take breaks to breath every now and then, just to get back on the rumble, tumble road of our existence.

On my own rumble, tumble, I feel myself getting more philosophical. Wondering, Are We All We Are? Is it age? Is it my kids? Is it both? I am not sure. But my thinking has definitely changed from where it was ten years ago.

I wonder if there is more to this life? Should I be doing something more? Helping more. Changing the lives of others in a positive way.

What more could I do? What difference could I make?

I would love to be more of a humanitarian, a philanthropist. Giving my time to charitable causes to help people. Travelling to far off lands to make the world a better place.

As I hear the news of parts of the world in utter turmoil, people needlessly dying and in poverty, children suffering. It is heart wrenching. There has to be more I can do to lend a hand to others.

And why can't I! Small steps to begin with, as unfortunately I don't see travelling to far off lands making the world a better place in my near future. But I can start close to home.

Starting with helping to Close the Gap and not the Communities by writing a letter to the Indigenous Affairs Minister, Nigel Scullian and WA Premier Colin Barnett. to stop the closure of remote Aboriginal communities. https://act.oxfam.org/australia/close-the-gap-not-the-communities-letter.

And this is just the start.

Do you have a regular charity you help?
Are you a humanitarian?
Do you think we are all we are?

$1 million to charity

Today's prompt for #CHBloginMay is You have a million dollars to give to one charity, which one do you choose?

There are so many worthwhile charities that I would love to give a million dollars. To pick just one is so incredibly hard.

The charities that tend to be closest to my heart though are the ones that deal with things that have personally touched me.

Is this the same with everyone?

Two of my adorable aunts lost their battles with breast cancer. I would love to donate my million dollars to breast cancer research. It would be wonderful to have a cure and see no more people suffer from this awful disease.

My dad was born with a cleft lip and palate. He faced many surgeries, difficulty eating, speaking and breathing, not to mention the bullying. I would love to help other children who are in a similar position and donate my million dollars to The Smile Train.

My brother has Type 1 Diabetes. I would give my pancreas to help him, if that were possible - it is not. Currently they are looking at stem cell research to provide a cure. I hope it works! I don't want to see my brother suffering from the effects that diabetes has (and will have) on him.

Therefore, I think for purely selfish reasons, I would give my million dollars to Diabetes Australia. It could be the difference in finding a cure.

Now I just need to get a million dollars.

What charity would you give your million dollars to?

Wrap with Love...update

Last week I finished my first square for my Wrap with Love blanket! Only 27 to go!

I started back in early February, if you want to read all about it check out my Wrap with Love post.

I have to admit I am somewhat proud of myself, I actually cast on, knitted and cast off and so far it has actually held together!

At this rate though I am hoping to at least be finished by Christmas - but it is the thought that counts, right?

Thanks to my mum I actually have two squares now as she kindly gave me one that she had prepared earlier! So really 26 to go!

Let the knitting continue....

Wrap with Love

I have found a hobby, well a task of sorts - Wrap with Love. My Mum told me about it when we were chatting about hobbies, she had heard of it on ABC 702.

In 1992 Wrap with Love began to help as many people as possible by providing warm wraps to ward off hypothermia. Over the past 20 years they have sent more than 300,000 wraps to over 75 countries, including Australia.

Wrap with Love is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated with the Department of Fair Trading, NSW Australia. They rely on donations of knitted/crocheted squares or completed wraps or money.

For more information, go to Wrap with Love.

My task is to knit 28 squares, each 10 inch x 10 inch using 4mm needles and 8 ply yarn. When completed, my wrap will be 4 squares across and 7 squares down and then I will send it to the delivery point in Rosebery, NSW.

When completed my wrap should look (hopefully) something like this....
