Swimmers shenanigans

Image from here

I have to admit when I first heard about the shenanigans of the 4 x 100m relay team (made up of six guys actually) I was wondering what all the fuss was about - knocking and running on team mates doors and prank phone calling. Did they think they were on school camp?

Hang on - NO they weren't at school camp! They were at the team staging camp in Manchester, just days before arriving at the OLYMPICS! Apparently an event they train their whole lives to succeed at, why would you not take it seriously? Clearly the people they pissed off with their shenanigans were taking it seriously, with some saying their behaviour was completely inappropriate.

The inappropriateness continued at the press conference where James Magnussen and Eamon Sullivan admitted to taking Stilnox to bond with some of their other relay team mates. Clearly the days of having a beer with your mates down the pub are long gone.

Stilnox is a prescription drug to treat insomnia. The story goes that athletes requiring frequent international travel might be prescribed Stilnox to help them cope with changes in their sleep cycle.

Another story goes that apparently Stilnox is also gaining popularity to produce euphoria, heighten sexual experience and to ease the "come down" after using amphetamines or cocaine!

Also did they check out the side effects of this drug before taking it? They include disorientation, slowness in thinking and movement, poor attention and concentration, muscle cramps, neck and back pain, fatigue and visual disturbances.

These aren't side effects that seem particularly appealing at any time, especially days before competing at the OLYMPICS!

Guys, next time opt for a quiet beer down the pub with your mates for a bonding session.

What are your thoughts?
