I follow the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Hubby follows the Parramatta Eels.
When Brother B and I came along, our fates were sealed - we were Rabbitohs fans because Dad and his family were.

But she really is "mummys little rabbitoh". Every time she sees anything red and green she shouts excitedly that it is the Bunnies. She has also recently taken to running around the house calling herself a "Burgess sister" after seeing the Burgess brothers at Coogee beach a few weeks ago.
I just took it for granted that our kids would follow the Rabbitohs, just like the rest of my family.
Hubby had very different ideas.
When our little man was conceived he was claimed as a Eels fan, right from the get-go. Boy or girl it didn't matter. He/she was going to be an Eels fan. At least if Hubby had anything to do with it.
When Little Mr 0 was actually born, Hubby bought him a Eels supporter pack containing a bib and several onesies with Eric the Eel emblazoned on them before he even got his first feed. It seems that his fate has also been sealed.

Little Miss 4 thinks that this is fair, she tells me, "We have two boys and two girls in this house and we have two Eels fans and two Bunnies fans too. That is fair, you know"
So, you see we had to have two kids; one Rabbitohs fan and one Eels fan because that is fair.
We are not divided in this house - we all wear the same colours - actually I have a funny feeling that you can't even marry into this family if you don't wear the same colours! AFL fans here, die-hard Western bulldog fans - my boys had their memberships - before they were born!
ReplyDeleteI completely get this post, its culture xx

I think my Dad would love it if my Hubby converted to a Rabbitohs fan! hahaha!
DeleteWe are not a divided family actually we were eels fans for a long time then they started losing and we lost interest in football. When we moved to wollongong we became dragons supporters but still never really watched a game. Now we follow no one but in the back of my head I go for the eels.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good year for me this year! Normally it is the Rabbitohs trailing in the bottom half of the ladder but this year the tides have turned. We have a couple of friends who follow the Dragons and they are seriously fanatical.
DeleteI don't follow football, and nor does my husband, so I can't really relate! We share a love of Nadal though...not sure if that counts. It's certainly not the reason we had two girls though! x
ReplyDeleteI like Nadal too. I love watching the tennis in the summer months. In fact I love watching a lot of the summer sports.
DeleteSorry can't relate to this one! We aren't footy followers at all! We have a love of cycling though. Each to their own! Good luck with your battles!
ReplyDeleteWe love the cycling too. We are enjoying watching the Giro highlights and so glad that Evans is doing well.
DeleteWe aren't a sport following family at all. Though I am sure it will happen (with 4 boys I don't think I will be able to escape it!)
ReplyDeleteSeems very reasonable to me though!
Definitely we four boys you will be following some kind of sport. My brother played cricket so we grew up on Saturday cricket games. We are now members of the SCG!
DeleteToo cute! I'm not into footy at all but hubby is as well as my parents and his mum. So, I think the boys will be steered in all directions as to which teams to cheer for! I can't wait! (dripping with sarcasm).
ReplyDeleteHey Grace, you are in for interesting times ahead. I think my mum is lucky that we all went for the Rabbitohs. It will be interesting as my own kids get older - I wonder if they will even want to follow the Eels and Rabbitohs?
DeleteOur house would have been divided, except that Boatman refused to marry me unless i became a Crows supporter, and since I wasn't particularly partial to my own team, I agreed. Now we are all united :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!
DeleteI am pretty sure my Hubby married me because I am a member at the Sydney Cricket Ground :)
