I have just finished reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. Incredible book. She is a very funny lady.
I will probably blog about many things I read in this book....but lets start with this one, shall we.
In the book she quotes people as saying to her, "Jerry Lewis says women aren't funny" or "Christopher Hitchens says women aren't funny"...."Do you have anything to say to that?"
In her head she says, "Yes. We don't fucking care if you like it."
Cause if you don't like it, then don't watch it or listen to it or read it. Go do something you do like. If you don't think Tina Fey is funny, don't watch 30 Rock.
Everyone is free to have their likes and dislikes. To think that some people are funny and some people are not is okay.
There are plenty of people, both men and women who I think are funny and plenty who I think are not.
The whole generalisation thing is starting to wear a little thin though, isn't it? Women aren't funny, come on. Surely, Jerry finds at least one woman funny. Can he go through his entire life and not laugh at one thing a woman says? Really?
Our daughter is currently five years old and our son is 9 months old, it is my wish that when they are 36 years old (my current age) that people will actually be equal. The comment will be, "So-and-so says people just aren't funny, what do you have to say to that?" - which would be totally unrealistic, who would actually think no-one was funny....well maybe George Costanzas mum, Estelle, who has never laughed, not even a tee-hee.
Hopefully there will be no comments like women aren't funny, or men can't change a nappy when my kids get older!
