The Grufflalo's Child

The Gruffalo's Child by Julia Donaldson
Little Miss 4 and I recently went to the Sydney Opera House to see The Gruffalo's Child, which is CDP and Tall Stories' musical adaptation based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The main jist of the story is that one night the Gruffalo's child ignores her father's warning and enters the deep, dark wood to find out if the Big Bad Mouse really exists.

This is a true sequel to The Gruffalo, also by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler in which the Gruffalo walks through the deep dark wood meeting various animals along the way who seem to be afraid of the Big Bad Mouse - a truly excellent and very clever story.

I was a bit worried that Little Miss 4 might be a bit afraid of the animals along the way and the deep, dark wood. However, the play was so well done for both children and adults, mixing music and comedy to tell the story that we both laughed and interacted the whole time.

Admittedly I am a huge Julia Donaldson fan, we have several of her books including The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, Zog, The Snail and the Whale, The Smartest Giant in Town, Room on a Broom, and Night Monkey Day Monkey. And I have just bought another 6 for Little Miss 4 for Christmas. Her books are so clever and mostly in verse so the kids love them and find it easy to memorise the words, which I think helps them enjoy the books.

Who is your favourite childrens book author?
