"On this first International Day of Happiness, let us reinforce our commitment to inclusive and sustainable human development and renew our pledge to help others. When we contribute to the common good, we ourselves are enriched. Compassion promotes happiness and will help build the future we want."
Message from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moonToday is the first International Day of Happiness!
In July 2012, all 193 United Nations member states adopted a resolution calling for happiness to be given greater priority and therefore March 20 has been declared as the International Day of Happiness - a day to inspire action for a happier world.
There are three ways that you can get involved:
- Affirm the pledge - Join thousands of others and make a pledge to bring more happiness to others. http://dayofhappiness.net/pledge
- Cheer your happy heroes - and say what they do to bring happiness to others. http://dayofhappiness.net/happy-heroes/
- Take part - do something at home, work, school or in your community to bring happiness to others. https://dayofhappiness.squarespace.com/take-part
The Day of Happiness campaign is being led by Action for Happiness and Cheers.
Cheers is a fun social way of expressing love and appreciation for anyone, anything, anywhere.
Action for Happiness is a movement of people taking action to help create a happier society for everyone.
This International Happiness Day I am going to buy flowers for Little Miss 4's teachers to hopefully bring a smile to their faces after what I can only presume is a hectic day looking after all those little ones!
