The Grounds, Alexandria

Last weekend I met a girlfriend for lunch at The Grounds in Alexandria. It was so delightful, not only The Grounds but the chance to spend time with a close friend. One of my all time favourite things, having lunch with friends, such food for the soul, isn't it.

It was a cloudy and cold nearly-winters day in Sydney, but this had no impact on the amount of people heading to The Grounds. It certainly is a popular place. I got the impression it is always crowded as I overheard one woman say, "I said last time I wouldn't come back because of all the people". Clearly she had forgotten the last time and was drawn back by the allure of The Grounds.

This was my first visit to The Grounds but it definitely won't be my last.

We started to mosey around and peppered around the grounds were little stands of nuts, pastries, donuts, coffee, and lemonade, complimented by lovely hanging flowers, trees and trestle tables.

Tucked into a corner is a beautiful florist. Not only selling these gorgeous flowers, but vases, ornaments and cards. I just had to buy myself some yellow ping pongs (located in the picture below), which are now adorning the dining table.

As we continued our walk through The Grounds we happened upon The Potting Shed. They had a table for two, so we snatched it up, and enjoyed a juice (orange, lemon, passionfruit and raspberry - extremely delicious) and some lunch amongst more hanging flowers, antique furnishings and a parrot that was quiet partial to the taste of passerby's flowers.

The Potting Shed encourages meal sharing, so you get to have a bit of a taste of more than one dish, which is a great idea and seems to be the theme of the day at a lot of trendy places. The staff are prompt and totally delightful and very accommodating offering gluten free options for the sandwiches and burgers.

The Grounds has a real ambiance. It is a very relaxed environment and also has some animals; pig, goats, birds for the kids. It really has something for everyone.

Have you been?
Would you go?
Was it packed?
