Sports Sunday - sport, sport, sport

There is a plethora of sport on the TV at the moment. Some nights I am not too sure which channel I should stay on or when I should actually call it a night.

For us, the main ones at the moment are Le Tour de France and The Ashes.

Le Tour de France

The second week of the 100th Tour has just finished and so far it has been a cracker.

The first week saw Aussie Simon Gerrans win a stage and slip into the yellow jersey.

The Aussie Orica GreenEDGE team took out the team time trial. Their team bus also got stuck under the final gantry on the first day and what ensued was a serious debacle of changing the finish line to the 3km mark and then changing it back. I'm sure the riders were really impressed...NOT.

The first week had me falling in love with Simon Gerrans after he gave up the yellow jersey to team mate Daryl Impey. His reasoning was because he had never worn it before. Awww, seriously great sportsmanship!

I am very sad for Cadel Evans, who has slipped out of contention after faultering on a mountain stage. Still not too sure who I should be going for now, Chris Froome or Alberto Contador?

The second week saw me fall out of love with Mark Cavendish.

Last year I was watching the British coverage on the net and became a Mark Cavendish fan. This year I am watching the SBS coverage and realise I was totally hoodwinked by their bias coverage.

So far I have been shocked by his comments and also his aggressive riding. In regard to stage wins and the green jersey I am therefore going for Marcel Kittel or Andre Griepel.

I love mountain stages so really looking forward to the next week! I wonder who will be wearing yellow as the riders descend on Paris?

The Ashes

Murmurs have been abound that the Aussie's are a chance of winning The Ashes this year. Eh, I wasn't so sure. The Australian cricket team were in complete disarray having a coach change just before the start of the series - surely that takes it's toll?

They got off to a rocky start, only to be brought out of it by youngster Ashton Agar. I am sure I am not the only one who went to bed before Ashton Agar knocked up 98 on debut! Breaking a world record along the way.

Today is day five, the final day. At the time of writing this, England need 4 wickets and Australia need 133 to win. Only time will tell who will take out game one.

C'mon Aussie!

Have you been watching a lot of sport this week? or are you over it all?

  1. It's Tour de France central here. I've been a dedicated (or stupid) follower and have stayed up right through to 1:30am every night/morning so needless to say I am very grumpy, but wouldn't have it any other way.
